Phew! Friends, it’s done! Getting a classroom together is no easy task. There are many things I kept the same in my room this year, and others I changed. I am happy with my organization and the way I have things stored, but I needed a switch up of decor. I kept basically the same color scheme (blacks and bright colors) but added in some more of my favorite – pink! I also wanted to simplify things a bit. I have thought a lot about studies behind setting up your classroom for success and I wanted to make sure I kept that in mind. I didn’t want the room to be too over stimulating, and I wanted it to be flexible for my students to make it their space.
First up, two views of my room! My room is super small and space is at a minimum. When I moved to my school the room I previously had was at least four times as big. I think I have figured out how to make it work though. I have 19 students and want to have enough seating for even more than that. This year I am trying flexible seating. I have put my students names on chairs for now, and may even take those off. We are not quite ready to go all in yet, but we will get there soon!

Your room is so cute! I love all the bright colors! So jealous of all those cabinets and those lockers are to die for! The burlap tags are fantastic and the banners across the celling really bring it all together. It is all so organized, you did a super job! Have a fabulous year!

Laura – you are so sweet! I know, I am SO lucky to have cabinets and it is so nice to have all of their things behind locker doors!! Organization is my goal, I am so glad you can see it! Thanks again!

Could you please tell me more about your flexible seating?? Thinking about trying it. Do they always get a choice? What if they are productive? Do they all have a seat where they could write like a clipboard or desk if needed? Did parents have any concerns? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! Thanks for your comment! We haven't started all the way yet because we are still getting routines down. I plan to have flexible seating during independent and partner work times. Right now I let them go around the room to where they work best when they are working independently. It is going well. I have clipboards for them to use if they need it. The way I justify it is that I want them to be where they can do their best work and learning. I tell them that I will have to help make a seating choice for them if they can not make a good one. Hope this helps!

Oops! Meant what if they are NOT being productive.

Sarah, your room is looking so BRIGHT and CHEERY! Loving all the work you put in!! I especially like your book holders on the white board and that your white board is lined for letter formation. Did you do that yourself? Good job, friend!!

Erin! You are too sweet!! Thanks so much. I got the book holders from Lakeshore and they are awesome. I had to get a special board made to fit my SMART board, so I had them add the lines. It was done specially, but I don't know what they don't have them on more boards!!
