Too cool for school. Read on to learn why we are dressed like this! |
Our class loves Go Noodle. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a fabulous FREE site that has several videos for kids to take brain breaks too. I try to get on Go Noodle with my class several times a day. In fact, we just leave it up in our browser and return to it when we have a few minutes throughout the day. It gives your class incentives for earning minutes that my kids love. I am so thankful for it.
Our favorite videos to watch on Go Noodle are the Koo Koo Kangaroos. I have been dancing to the group with my students for a few years. I used to find their videos on YouTube. I am so happy to have them all in one easy place now. Plus, there are some awesome new ones!
My students have individual positive behavior incentives, but we also have a class BINGO chart that we earn pieces for as a group. It is cold here now, so we needed to think of an incentive that kept us inside. One day it came to me, that we should have a Koo Koo Kangaroo day! My class was pumped.
There ended up being a lot of academic work involved in our day. We sent emails out to all of the classes asking if we could come in and explaining what we would be doing. We created a schedule and went through all of the videos to pick out the ones that we thought each class would like. We even made a script and assigned students to read it at various visits.
I purchased gold duct tape and fake mustaches for my students to wear. I asked for everyone to come to school in black shirts and pants. I gave the option to accessorize! As soon as the class got to school, I started putting the word “Koo” on them. They were SO very excited.
I borrowed one of Mr. B’s hats to spray paint, and had so much fun I decided to do my shoes too! |
How cute is my class?! |
Now we were having too much fun. |
We got started right away and went to kindergarten at 9:15. We did one video with each class. By the end of the day we were E-X-H-A-U-S-T-E-D! We made nine visits in total. We successfully spread the word of the importance of brain breaks while having a great time!
Enjoy the pictures and video!
